Is it the end of retail outlets in NY

Things are looking pretty bleak for music these days. If you aren’t aware Virgin is closes it’s megastores here in New York starting with the store at Times Square.

Just today I saw signs for 50% off, whereas two days ago those signs were 25% off. Understanding enough with the state of the economy, but there’s something else that people mainly in New York City may not be paying attention to. With Virgin closing their stores within the city by the summer, that will only leave J&R Music World and Best Buy as the only two major retailers to buy music from. Kind of scary being that Best Buy’s collection of music is very very thin. Personally I think J&R has a better selection, but then again that’s just my opinion.

Does that mean that it’s a prime time for Walmart to make it’s move into the city. Granted from the Walmarts I’ve been to outside of the city the music selection ain’t that great either, but at least we’d have more options.

A bit odd that in a major city of shopping, you may not be able to get music any longer. Hmm……

For all the playas, all the hustlas...

Digital Presence

What's up good peoples?

Every now and then I randomly Google the name Euphon to see what the results are to measure how our online digital promotions and online presence is doing. Kind of a checks and balances type of thing.

Upon doing so I found a link to our very very very first 12" single on Ebay! Wow!!
Naturally my first thought was how did someone in Missouri get a copy of our single, then I remembered the couple of record pools that were serviced. Hopefully that's how they got it. Then after a good laugh out of the shock of it being on Ebay, I began to question...is this a good thing or a bad thing?

I don't quite have an answer for that one just yet, but thought I'd share and see what your thoughts were.

Black History month

What it is, what it is?

Alright being that this is black history month, and yes I understand it's the shortest month of the year but let's keep it positive.....If you are a parent or were a parent besides yourselves who would you encourage your child to strive to be like?
Now you don't only have to be black to answer or suggest a person, so please feel free to comment.

Oh no say it ain't so.....

Alright I'm not one to gossip but or anything like that but I had to share this and see what everyone was thinking about this one.
Supposedly Chris Brown was charged for assaulting his arm piece Rihanna. It shocked the heck out of me when I read a couple of articles about it. Whoa man this does not look good for ol' dude there.

What's your feeling on the issue?

There's a quick story after jump:

True Hip-Hop Stories

Damn I can't believe I didn't share this one with y'all earlier.
A friend of mine actually put me on to it (thanks Jo!) and I've been checking in regularly.

D-Nice (yeah the dude from back in the days that used to run with KRS and BDP) has a blog. Most of it is basically photo journalism which is pretty good...actually very good by the way, has started doing these shorts called True Hip-Hop Stories. The most interesting one to me so far has been how Masta Ace got to be on the classic track The Symphony.

Check out the blog and the rest of the shorts after the jump.

Hip-Hop & Movies

Alright, it's well known that hip-hop and movies go hand to hand. Most gangster thuggy-type artists make comparisons and sometimes sample actual sound bites from Scarface and the Wu who notably used many kung-fu flicks within their material, it's not hard to see the effects movies have on culture and in turn the music influenced by it.
Hell even most artists are characters to make themselves marketable, but hey we're not going to really get into all that.

I just wanted to give heads a quick update on some upcoming flicks with hip-hop artists in them.

First up is Terminator Salvation
I'm not sure why they're digging back into the barrel on this one, but it is what it is. Common has a role in the latest installment of the terminator series. How much of a role I don't know but he's got a little face time in the trailer that's out now. I wonder if they got Arnold to make a cameo. He recently pulled out the Conan sword to signify how he would cut state taxes.

The next one is Next Day Air.
From the trailer, it looks to be a pretty funny comedy with Mos Def playing a decent sized role along side Mike Epps and a host of others.

Also on a side note a biopic of The Juice Crew that was in production was cancelled because of funding. Kind of stale when one of the most important hip-hop crews can't get the ends to create a film to tell their story.

Check out the trailers and stories after the jump:
