If you aren’t aware Virgin is closes it’s megastores here in New York starting with the store at Times Square. </p> <p style="font-family: verdana;">Just today I saw signs for 50% off, whereas two days ago those signs were 25% off. Understanding enough with the state of the economy, but there’s something else that people mainly in New York City may not be paying attention to. With Virgin closing their stores within the city by the summer, that will only leave J&R Music World and Best Buy as the only two major retailers to buy music from. Kind of scary being that Best Buy’s collection of music is very very thin. Personally I think J&R has a better selection, but then again that’s just my opinion. </p> <p style="font-family: verdana;">Does that mean that it’s a prime time for Walmart to make it’s move into the city. Granted from the Walmarts I’ve been to outside of the city the music selection ain’t that great either, but at least we’d have more options. </p> <p style="font-family: verdana;">A bit odd that in a major city of shopping, you may not be able to get music any longer. Hmm……</p><p style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></p><p style="font-family: verdana;">More after the jump: <a href="http://www.sunherald.com/businesswire/story/1178172.html">Virgin Megastore closings</a><br /></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8671796314973614863.post-78125557422943083012009-02-18T13:02:00.006-05:002009-02-19T15:22:09.756-05:00Euphon Live @ The Annex<div>What it is, what it is?</div><div> </div><br /><div>Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that we'll be performing on the 2 March at The Annex located at 152 Orchard St on the Lower East Side. </div><br /><div>The doors open at 8pm and the show starts at 9pm, it's 10 beans (not literally!) to get . </div><br /><div>Other's scheduled to perform are Triboro and Rugged n Raw.<br />We're scheduled to go on at 9m.<br /><br />See you there!<br /><br /><br /></div><br /><div> </div><br /><div> </div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8671796314973614863.post-9889064275941226232009-02-16T02:10:00.003-05:002009-02-16T02:20:04.424-05:00For all the playas, all the hustlas...Okay no not really, but the Aqua League collective has let out a track from the up coming Velvet Gentleman soundtrack. Most gangster thuggy-type artists make comparisons and sometimes sample actual sound bites from Scarface and the Wu who notably used many kung-fu flicks within their material, it's not hard to see the effects movies have on culture and in turn the music influenced by it. </span></span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Hell even most artists are characters to make themselves marketable, but hey we're not going to really get into all that. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">I just wanted to give heads a quick update on some upcoming flicks with hip-hop artists in them. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">First up is </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Terminator Salvation</span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">I'm not sure why they're digging back into the barrel on this one, but it is what it is. Common has a role in the latest installment of the terminator series. How much of a role I don't know but he's got a little face time in the trailer that's out now. I wonder if they got Arnold to make a cameo. He recently pulled out the Conan sword to signify how he would cut state taxes.</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">The next one is </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Next Day Air</span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">.</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">From the trailer, it looks to be a pretty funny comedy with Mos Def playing a decent sized role along side Mike Epps and a host of others. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Also on a side note a biopic of The Juice Crew that was in production was cancelled because of funding. Kind of stale when one of the most important hip-hop crews can't get the ends to create a film to tell their story. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Check out the trailers and stories after the jump:</span></span></div><div><a href="http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/terminatorsalvation/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Terminator Salvation</span></span></a></div><div><a href="http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=49964313"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Next Day Air</span></span></a></div><div><a href="http://woooha.com/2009/01/exclusive-juice-crew-movie-the-vapors-is-dead/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">The Juice Crew story on hold</span></span></a></div><div><br /></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8671796314973614863.post-44186812752927187632008-12-17T14:27:00.003-05:002008-12-17T15:07:30.039-05:00X-men Origins<span style=";font-family:verdana;font-size:100%;" >What it is?<br /><br />The other day I was reading a blog and they had a post with a video trailer for the new X-men flick. Not a bad look actually some of them were pretty fresh. </span></span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Click the jump to </span></span><a href="http://www.formatmag.com/features/lego-hip-hop-album-covers/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">see all the covers</span></span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">. </span></span></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8671796314973614863.post-2754182012252744352008-12-13T01:02:00.008-05:002008-12-13T02:05:28.818-05:00Has hip-hop hit a creative glass ceiling<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;">The other day a friend of mine had sent out an e-mail that had a massive collection of hip-hop songs that spanned 20 years of hip-hop (thanks E!). The lists were broken down into decades. There were all types of artists that had different styles of music. They were from the east coast, west coast, down south, and there were even some memorable underground artists that were listed as well. Basically the list wasn't just the typical hip-hop list you would see today, which was refreshing. </span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;">What I'm trying to get at it is that the lists showed the areas in which hip-hop was at its creative high point. Now before we start getting threatening comments about hip-hop artists that are doing things on the creative side, it seems as a whole hip-hop has hit a creative ceiling. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;">It seems like people are trying to adapt formulas that would work for them, which is cool. For instance, you have 50 who took advantage of the mix tape. But now it seems that everyone has a mix tape. I understand that it's a way for an artist to keep their name afloat but it's kind of hard to take advantage of it when everyone else is doing it. We also have Soulja Boy who took advantage of the internet. Which again is cool because technology has definitely changed the way people hear and receive new music. Hell we even have a new president that took advantage of the internet so I can't get mad there. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;">Then we have the latest thing, auto tuning. While it's great that Kanye is experimenting and trying new things to be creative, but T-Pain seemed to have that niche cornered and now everyone and I mean EVERYONE is digging into that bag right now. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;">It happened to Das EFX, and a countless list of others. I know with hip-hop coming up on 30 years there's going to be artists that are influenced by the artists that came before them and there's going to be some resemblances. But taking someone else's niche, styling, flavor, or swagger and trying to make it your own is rather stale. We're talking about a genre of music that originated from break beats to become the global force it is now. You can get no more creative then that, but what happened?</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;">What do you think? I'll step off my soapbox so you can start casting your stones now...</span></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8671796314973614863.post-64676231528640259302008-12-13T00:43:00.005-05:002008-12-13T02:21:24.326-05:00What happened to the remix?<div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Re-mix<br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">verb, Mix again. Produce a different version of (a musical recording) by altering the balance of the separate tracks. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">noun, A different version of a musical recording produced in such a way. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Now that all of the technical stuff is out the way, just wanted some clarity on the word "remix".</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">What happened to the "remix"? What happened to the added element or entirely new track that captured the vibe of the original, but yet still stood out on its own to be just as memorable? There's nothing wrong with removing a verse from the original song and sliding a 16 in from a quest artist and calling it a "remix". We just want to know what happened to the creativity of the "remix"?</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">In spirit of the "remix" revival we posted the second single off the History Repeated project and the original version for "When". Sort of a When vs. When, not that we're pitting the two versions against each other just exemplifying what our view of a "remix" is. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Any feedback on the track is more then welcomed, and since we're talking about "remixes" give us a quick list of your favorite "remixes". And we mean 5, not 5 with ties in any of the rankings, honorable mentions, or anything slick like that. Just your top 5 like T-mobile....<br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Download </span></span><a href="http://www.euphon.net/when_remix.zip"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">When (remix)</span></span></a></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
